The objective of this study is to explore the applicability of community cultural resources to character education for preservice early childhood teachers. To achieve the objective of this study, this study set up two research questions such as, first, ‘What are the results of utilizing the community cultural resources for character education for preservice early childhood teachers?’and second, ‘What are the contents of early childhood character education activities based on community cultural resources presented by preservice early childhood teachers?’ The research methods are as follows. First, after organizing total 349 cultural heritages on the basis of data related to cultural resources in Gyeongju region, the cultural resources suitable for the objective of this study were selected together with an expert group. After conducting a learners’ needs survey by using total 25 types of selected cultural resources as the first data, the cultural resources that would be used for this study were finally selected by reflecting the survey results together with five people of an expert group. As a result, this study selected total five types of cultural resources such as Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, Choi’s Old House of Gyodong in Gyeongju, Hwarang Village, and Daereungwon Photo Studio. This study composed the character education activities by utilizing the finally-selected five types of cultural resources, received the verification of the validity from an expert group, and then provided total five sessions of activities to 29 preservice early childhood teachers. In the results of activities, the cultural resources in Gyeongju region were valuable to be utilized for character education for preservice early childhood teachers. This study suggests to develop some character education programs utilizing more various cultural resources in the future.
