In this study, various multicultural issues were dealt with as the topic of a Japanese debate class using a simulation textbook (book titled “Hyotan Island Problem”) targeting Korean university students who want to work in Japan. The purpose of this study is to help university students understand the position of majority and minority in Japan and Korea through Japanese debate classes, and also to reveal how students' consciousness toward multicultural coexistence changes. Although most of the students had never heard the meaning of multicultural coexistence before the Japanese debate class, they were able to understand the meaning of multicultural coexistence after the Japanese debate class. The advantages of increasing foreigners in Korea can be divided into four categories: exchange of diverse cultures, acquisition of broad thinking, economic development, and improvement of international status. The disadvantages of the increase in foreigners can be divided into four categories: loss of traditional culture, various problems for foreigners, adverse effects on Koreans, and deterioration of public security.
