This study aims to comprehensively review and organize previous studies related to planned happenstance, which positively affects the career path and emphasize the importance of unexpected events in the rapidly changing uncertainty of modern society, and suggest directions for future follow-up studies. To this end, the domestic literature search engine has searched data related to the planned happenstance published in domestic thesis papers and academic journals since 2010. Finally, 96 articles were included, and trends according to research subjects, methods, and contents were comprehensively analyzed. As a result, the study mainly focused on college students in terms of research subjects, and more quantitative research using the survey has been published. In addition, most studies used a planned happenstance career inventory (PHCI). In content analysis, personal, social, and environmental factors affected a planned happenstance skill. In addition, many career-related adaptation behavior variables (i.e., career adaptation, career behavior) were dependent variables influenced by the planned happenstance skill. Based on these findings, we discussed the limitations of the study and suggestions for future studies.
