This study aimed to comprehend the perceptions of elementary school parents regarding the descriptive evaluation method. The results of a cross-analysis and variance analysis using data collected by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education from parents of elementary school students in 2022 were as follows: Firstly, groups with higher expenditures on private education had a stronger negative perception of the professionalism and fairness of descriptive evaluation. Secondly, those who believed that the primary purpose of elementary student evaluation was to provide feedback on evaluation results tended to view teachers' fairness in the descriptive evaluation process negatively. Furthermore, it was observed that higher private education expenditure was associated with lower overall expectations of change. Moreover, parents with high expectations for their children's academic achievement improvement and progression to higher-level schools through school education exhibited lower expectations for changes in students and teachers following the implementation of the the descriptive evaluation policy. They also had reduced expectations regarding lower private education expenses and increased trust in public education. Based on the aforementioned analysis results, this study proposes several suggestions aimed at enhancing parents' trust in descriptive evaluation policies and aligning them with the anticipated performance of such policies.
