The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of group art therapy on the job stress and self-esteem of special education teachers. For this purpose, the purpose of this study was guided to special education teachers in Y city, Gyeonggi Province, and 20 special education teachers who wanted to participate were selected; 10 were assigned to be students in the experimental group, and 10 were assigned to the control group. Afterward, group art therapy was administered to the experimental group for 24 sessions, 90 minutes twice a week, from May 3, 2016, to August 3, 2016. The study tools included a job stress scale and a self-esteem scale, and collected data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 22.0. The research results were as follows. First, group art therapy was found to be effective in reducing the job stress of special education teachers. Second, group art therapy was found to be effective in improving the self-esteem of special education teachers. These findings suggest that group art therapy had a positive effect on the reduction of job stress and the improvement of self-esteem among special education teachers in a situation where little psychological-emotional treatment and intervention were conducted. In other words, group art therapy helped special education teachers evaluate themselves as valuable and positive, helping them to cope with the situation and reality of special education teachers in stressful school situations.
