This study purpsoed to apply group art therapy by appreciating masterpieces of newly recruited soldiers and to early adapt to military life based on empathy and support among them. The research question was, “What kind of experiences they who experienced group art therapy appreciation of famous paintings, and through what process they adapt?” For this purpose, 120 minute 10 sessions of a appricating painting group art therapy program were conducted twice a week for nine recruits who assigned to the OO unit for two weeks to one and a half month. Afterwards, the experience meaning was examined a qualitative case study method. As a result, 5 core meanings and 18 themes were discovered. Core meanings were as follows: First, ‘a famous artist speaks to me', second, ‘my heart to know through art activities', third, ‘the pain of adapting to military life through self-opening' fourth, ‘feeling a sense of camaraderie' fifth, ‘reflecting on me' moving towards hope.’The results of this study were meaningful in that they provided an opportunity to examine in depth the difficulties and desires of military life experienced by new recruits. Based on these research results, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
