본 연구의 목적은 치매노인 대상 미술치료의 효과성을 파악하기 위해 메타분석을 실시하 여 종합적이고 과학적인 근거를 제시함으로써 치매노인을 위한 근거 기반의 미술치료 중재 프로그램의 개발 방향을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 치매노인을 대상으로 한 미술치료의 효과성을 보고한 국내 학술지 논문 및 석·박사 논문 40편을 대상으로 메타분석을 실시하였 고, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 치매노인 대상의 미술치료 연구들은 꾸준히 증가하는 추세이며, 치매노인에게 적용한 미술치료의 전체 효과크기를 무선효과모형을 적용하여 산출한 전체 효과크기는 Hedges’g=0.715(Z=3.830, P<0.05)로, 통계적으로 유의한 중간 효과크기를 가지 는 것으로 나타났다. 치매노인에게 적용한 미술치료 중재관련 특성 중 인지, 심리/정서, 자 기표현/의사소통, 행동, 삶의 질로 구분한 종속변인에 대한 효과크기의 차이를 비교한 결과 Q=42.579(p=0.000)로 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 났고, 그 중 삶의 질이 가장 큰 효과크기를 보였다. 반면, 치매노인을 대상으로 한 미술치료 중재관련 특성 중 치매 정도, 전체 회기 수, 주 회기 수, 그리고 매체/기법은 효과크기들 간의 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다.
The purpose of this study was to suggest a direction for the development of an evidence‐based art therapy intervention program for elders with dementia by conducting a meta-analysis to provide a comprehensive and scientific basis to evaluate the effectiveness of art therapy for elders with dementia. For this purpose, a meta-analysis was conducted on 40 papers from domestic journals and master s theses and doctoral dissertations, which reported the effectiveness of art therapy for elders with dementia, and the results are as follows. The studies on art therapy for elders with dementia tend to steadily increase, and the total effective size of art therapy for elders with dementia was calculated by applying the random-effects model as Hedges’g=0.715(Z=3.830, P<0.05), showing a statistically significant intermediate size. Among the characteristics of art therapy intervention applied to the elders with dementia, the results of comparing the differences of the effective sizes for dependent variables identified by cognitive, psychological/emotional, self expression/communication, behavior, and quality of life, was Q=42.579(p=0.000). The indicated that there was a statistically significant difference, and among them, the quality of life showed the greatest effective size. On the other hand, the severity of dementia, the total number of sessions, the number of sessions per week, and the media/technique among the characteristics of art therapy intervention for elders with dementia did not show any significant difference between the effective sizes.
