Objective : The purpose of the study is to explore future research directions by meta-analyzing the research objectives, research methods, and distribution of research fields established in domestic studies related to swallowing disorders in the elderly.
Methods : This is a meta-analysis that references the research of Jung (2024) based on the research methodology of Kitchenham (2004) and the research of Lee (2023) and Creswell and Creswell (2017).
Results : Compared to the early days, research on swallowing disorders in the elderly is pursuing research at a developmental level, and quantitative research methods account for a high proportion. The field that deals with swallowing disorders in the elderly was initially nursing, but has now shifted toward rehabilitation and occupational therapy.
Conclusion : Future research should advance case studies grounded in foundational data, addressing the current emphasis on quantitative research methodologies. Efforts within the academic community are essential to balance this trend and broaden research perspectives. Additionally, for studies on dysphagia in older adults to achieve a more integrative discourse, it is crucial to adopt an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates new perspectives from various academic fields. This approach will enhance the field’s capacity to address the complexity of dysphagia through a convergent and multidimensional lens.
