Scientific botanical illustration as an educational practice involves the creation of pedagogical projects that combine art, science, and drawing techniques. We present an educational experience implemented in a secondary school during the teaching practice component of a Master's program in teacher training, specialising in drawing, design, and visual arts. The exercise aimed to highlight the value of local native botanical species and promote sustainable education. The methodology of this work is qualitative, based on arts-based research (ABR) and a/r/tography, intending to gain a deeper understanding of the work processes obtained. In conclusion, we argue that the use of new techniques in the classroom to create botanical illustrations based on natural dyes and the creation of digital educational resources allow students to understand formal botanical representation in a meaningful way.
