The objective of this study is to explore the role of leisure activity in the
relationship between stress and life satisfaction for persons with visual impairment.
This study used 2nd Wave data extracted from the Panel Survey of Employment for
the Disabled (PSED), collected by the Employment Development Institute (EDI). Of
the total respondents, 591 respondents who reported visual impairment as a major
disability were used for the analysis. In the results, stress was shown to have
negative influence on life satisfaction and involvement in leisure activities. In addition,
involvement in leisure activities presented a positive influence on life satisfaction for
persons with visual impairment, and it was found to be significantly mediated in the
relationship between stress and life satisfaction. Based on the findings, the importance
of the involvement in leisure activity was highlighted for persons with visual
impairment who are exposed to stress. Furthermore, this study calls public attention
to the necessity of establishing environmental leisure activity support for this group of
people, which could positively contribute to their quality of life.
