This study aimed to provide conceptual frameworks for improving the quality of student teaching which is the most important element in preservice education and to review the role of college supervisors. Interpretive and/or critical paradigm were introduced as bases for conceptual frameworks and perspective changes in the nature of teaching were reviewed. Also, the importance of reflective thinking in teachers was emphasized. Purposes and meanings of student teaching were reviewed. In order for student teachers to succeed in student teaching, the role of college supervisors is critical. This study reviewed literature that revealed the effects of college supervisors on successful student teaching. On the basis of conceptural frameworks and the understanding of the role of college supervisors, several strategies were provided for a successful supervision.
