In this research we investigated the course taking experience of early childhood music
education in pre-service education of teachers and performance degree of early childhood music
education in practice. The need of early childhood music education program for teachers was
also analyzed. The subjects in this study were 217 teachers in charge of students aged three and
above and with more than 2 years of teaching experience. More than 80 percent of in-service
teachers took the course of early childhood education and almost half of them answered that the
education was not helpful to teach children in practice. More than half of cases, music activity
was performed 2 or 3 per week and almost all cases were conducted by the teachers who were
in charge of the class. The overemphasized phenomena of singing were observed in practical
activities and in-service teachers were suffered from musical concept teaching. The need
investigation results of education goals, contents, teaching methods, the types of management,
educators, and places to compose the early childhood education program for in-service teachers
were worth as the practical data which can show the basis to develop the user-oriented
customized education program and set up the direction for the future.
