영아의 건강생활은 정서적인 안정과 더불어 먹고, 자고 배설하는 인간의 기본적인 생존욕 구와 관련된다. 영아가 건강한 신체를 유지하기 위해서는 충분한 영향섭취와 수면을 취하도 록하며 규칙적인 배변과 적당한 활동 및 휴식이 이루어지도록 하여야 한다. 어린이집은 아이 들이 처음으로 엄마의 품과 가정을 벗어나 경험하게 되는 공동체 생활 장소이고, 가정과는 또 다른 환경이기 때문에 처음에는 모든 환경이 낯설게 느껴지고 적응하기가 쉽지는 않다. 영아가 점진적이고 체계적으로 편안하게 어린이집에 적응이 된 후에는 영아들이 어린이집 에서 다양한 기본 생활습관을 익히게 되는데 그중에서도 중요한 훈련 중의 하나가 배변학습 이다. 이 시기에 양육자가 격려해주고, 인내심을 가지고 기다려 줌으로써 자율성이 신장될 수 있다.
The healthy development of infant is closely connected to the basic needs of living like eating, sleeping and excreting as well as emotional stability. Infant should take sufficient nutrition and sleep in order to ensure healthy growing. Regular bowel movement is also a basic element together with moderate activity and relaxation. For infant, nursery facility is a place hard to be fit in where all the circumstances felt unfamiliar as it is the place he/she experiences communal life for the first time out of protection of mother and home. It is the bowel training that one of most important living habit infant masters in nursery among the variety of living habits child learns in nursery after the he/she has been adapted himself/herself to the facility gradually and systematically. Infant's self-control ability can be developed when caregiver patiently encourages and waits during the period.
