This is a study on dramatherapy cases with client A. It is focused on how images - participants created or made through projective work - function in dramatherapy work. Psychology and dramatherapy treat the projection differently. I assumed that the difference results from a conceptual gap in those two areas. Based on this assumption, I examined the creation and the function of the images as therapeutic language. It turns out that the projective images clients created, symbolize and represent the person's mental state in the dramatherapy. The client A who was a 15-year-old boy with intellectual disability used drawings. With his own tools, the projective works were processed. These projective images functioned as the way of understanding dramatherapy work. Client A used drawings to represent his projective images. I converted the drawings into more concrete format and provided it back to the client so that he could experience them physically. Specifically I made a role using the drawing images in an improvised play, and he could find the meaning of the character's behaviors by acting the role. When he needed correction, I made him draw more pictures with other therapists. They helped him to figure out other new images more comfortably. After that, I converted the images into a materialized character again and let the client have that role in a play, resulting in gradual behavioral changes. This study has significance in the respect that it shows a projective work that usually functions as a defense mechanism can also be a useful tool in dramatherapy, which can give shape to the client's internal or external conditions. Also, this study reveals how things in one's subconsciousness can come to the person's senses which can work as a therapeutic language. Here I want to add some suggestions for further study on the roles of images in dramatherapy. First, we still need to study on projective images in more art fields besides find arts. Second, we need to collect more projective images and search their meanings from various kinds of people to make sure that images could be more universal tools as therapeutical languages.
