본 연구는 유아가 일상생활에서 수가 나타내는 상황을 얼마나 잘 이해하고 있으며, 일상생활에서 발견되는 수에 대해서 얼마나 잘 이해하고 있는지, 또 기수․공간․수와 양․일대일 대응관계․순서에 따른 수학적 개념은 어느 정도 성취하고 있는지에 대해 알아본 연구이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 숫자 이해도와 수학성취력이 연령이나 성별에 따라 어떠한 차이가 있는지, 또한 일상생활에서 사용하는 숫자를 잘 이해하고 있는 유아가 수학성취력도 좋은지 그 관계성에 대해 알아보았다. 대전광역시에 소재한 유치원에 재원중인 만 4, 5세 유아 60명을 대상으로 일상생활 속의 숫자에 대한 이해도와 수학 성취력을 그림 및 교구테스트를 사용하여 측정하였다. 자료 분석은 ANOVA검정에 의해 이루어졌다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 숫자에 대한 이해도는 연령에 따라 차이가 나타난 반면, 성별에 따른 차이는 크게 나타나지 않았다. 둘째, 유아의 수학 성취도 역시 연령별로 기수, 공간, 수와 양의 차이, 일대일 대응관계, 순서에 관해서 모두 통계적으로 의미있는 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 유아의 일상생활에서 사용하는 숫자에 대한 이해도와 수학성취력과의 관계성에 있어서는 의미 있는 정적 상관이 나타났다.
The purpose of this study is to examine what children know about written numerals in their everyday environment and how they use this knowledge to reason about situation. It is also to know children\'s mathematical achievement in number understanding including cardinal number, space, numbers, quantity, one-to-one correspondence, and order. In addition, we try to find the relationship between the children\'s understanding of numbers in normal life and their mathematical achievement. Sixty children who go to kindergarten in Daejeon were participated in the study. The Picture Test and The Instruments designed for child interview were used to measure children\'s knowledge of numbers and mathematical achievement respectively. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, using SPSS. The result of the study are as follows: First, the children\'s number understanding has a meaningful difference with the ages but not with the gender. Second, with ages, there are meaningful differences in scores of the cardinal number, space, numbers quantity, one-to-one correspondence, and the order. Third, there is a significant relationship between children\'s understanding of numbers in everyday life and their mathematical abilities.
