This study examines whether living types, sex, and health condition of the elderly who live alone affect
their psychological stability, and if so then, how by a case study in order to improve local community
welfare To do so, a comparative survey was performed to the 433 elderly who live in Donggu area of
Deajeon City. Their living type (whether it is a common living type or a single living type), their health
conditions, and psychological stability were investigated. Data analysis was done by SPSS 18.0 program and
Two-way ANOVA was performed. The results are as follows: the psychological stability score of the
elderly who live alone is lower than that of their counterpart group. There was no significant difference on
psychological stability between men and women. The health condition of elderly who live alone is worse
than that of their counterpart group. Also, this study recognized that living alone affects psychological
stability more than a health condition.
