이 글은 아비첸나의 이론체계에서 인간 영혼의 불멸성과 개체성이 양립될 수 있는지에 주목한다. 이 작업을 위해 먼저 아비첸나가 영혼을 포함한 존재자 일반에 대한 개체성을 어떻게 설명하는지 보편자 문제의 맥락에서 살펴보겠다. 둘째, 영혼에 초점을 맞추어 개체성 문제를 다룰 것이다. 마지막으로, 그가 이승에서 신체와 결합된 영혼과 신체에서 분리된 영혼의 개체성을 각각 어떻게 설명하는지 비교․분석함으로써 아비첸나의 입장이 지니는 문제점을 드러낼 것이다.
This paper aims to deal with the question of how the incorruptibility of the human soul might be reconciled with its individuality in Avicenna's account. First, I will examine how he approaches individuation from the perspective of the problem of universals. Second, I wish to account for the problem of individuation by focusing on the human soul. It is my contention that Avicenna does not have a coherent theory for the individuation of both embodied soul and separated soul.
