With the rising interest in international social welfare recently among Korean social welfare organizations and researchers, there are an number of increasing trials being carried out as to see international development cooperation from social welfare point of view. This paper proposes how international social welfare projects in Korea can be applicable to international development projects by focusing on my hands-on experience as a social worker, fulfilling commitments to international development projects implemented by development NGOs during the past ten years. The newly emerging Korean social welfare organizations in the field of international development cooperation should try to avoid errors derived from the existing international development projects and give priority to a deep understanding of the international development cooperation arena. In addition, it is important to put Korean social workers’ accumulated a wide range of field experience to practical use as an integral resource for achieving tangible results instead of being stagnant in the international development cooperation.
