High jump class which is a part of the activity for undertaking challenge is neglected at
schools due to the lack of students' participation, difference in exercising function, lack of
necessary facilities, mixed gender class, and difficulty when it comes to instruction. To this,
class environment was formed by applying student centered class model by stage and level so
that students can participate in the class in an increasingly easier, safer and interesting manner.
This research targeted 36 male and female students of the mixed gender class at the Middle
School Y located in Busan. Moreover, researcher's daily log, in-depth interview record, survey
data, record on the observation, open answer type of questionnaire, formative evaluation and
other qualitative data were collected and analyzed. It was possible to increase willingness to
undertake challenge after applying class model by stage and level as a means to improve
teaching and learning instruction method, which in turn increased satisfaction level towards the
class, sense of confidence, attainment of the class objectives and active participation. This
research paper presents meaningful information regarding providing students with diverse
experiences, which is the core of physical education, and better teaching strategies for high
jump classes. More importantly, it will contribute to making high jump classes more accessible
and fun.
