The purpose of this study were to find out the effects of group art therapy
program on self-esteem and adaptation of school life of elementary school
student for the prevention of school violence. and its effectiveness in the
prevention of school violence. Nowadays elementary school violence has become
serious and has assumed different aspects from secondary school violence in its
grouping, systematization, and aggressiveness. This research was conducted
once a week for a total of twelve weeks(two hours) with an experimental group
composed of twenty student offenders (14, maleㆍ6, female) selected from B
elementary school in central seoul as the experimental group. Moreover, a similar
group was selected as the control group from preliminary pretesting and left
untreated. The method of analysis for effectiveness verification was to use
sample matching t-test in order to measure the extent of the change and the
average differences between before and after the program conducted. The results
of the research confirmed that the experimental group meaningfully increased
their sense of self-worth and the ability to adapt to school life; the group art
therapy program of this research had a positive effect in the prevention and
reduction of elementary school violence. Consequently, development and utilization
of group art therapy programs can be considered to be very meaningful for the
prevention and reduction of elementary school violence. In the foreseeable future,
it is anticipated that group art therapy programs for elementary school violence
will continue to be developed and utilized actively.
