The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement measures for the class of social studies in
elementary school in the phase of class planning. To this end, this study intends to propose methods that
can improve the class of social studies in the pre-class phase by performing an analysis utilizing the
holistic analysis of lessons (HAL) based on the case of a small-unit teaching plan for social studies
produced by an elementary school teacher.
Based on the results, this study will propose improvement methods on the small-unit level, which have
taken into account the organization of teaching and learning procedures for the entire small unit, the
reflection of the status of students or alternative conceptual frameworks, and the specification of the
conceptual framework of teachers and the knowledge structure as improvement points for the class of
social studies based on the analysis of a teaching plan.
However, as the teaching plan proposed by this study was produced based on the results of a student
survey in the region that differs from the regions in which the class was developed, the direct application
of this plan will have limitations. Therefore, teachers should create their own plans by re-organizing the
proposed plan according to the circumstances of their own school or class.
