본 연구는 주제중심 통합교과와 연계한 독서지도가 초등학교 2학년 학생들의 어휘력과 학습태도에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 책 읽어주기와 KWL을 적용한 주제중심 통합교과 독서교육의 효과와 그 가능성에 대해 검증해 보고자 하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 주제중심 통합교과 연계 독서지도를 위한 수업모형 및 주제 관련 문헌 탐색 및 요구 분석을 바탕으로 독서지도 교수?학습안을 작성하여 이를 실험집단인 초등학교 2학년 학급에 적용하고, 자유독서를 통제집단인 2학년 학급에 적용하였다. 그 결과, 주제중심 통합교과 연계 독서지도가 학생들의 어휘력과 학습태도 향상에 크게 기여하는 것으로 파악되었다. 따라서 주제중심 통합교과 연계 독서지도를 지속적으로 시행하는 것은 학생들의 통합교과와 관련된 지식이나 흥미를 높여 줄 것이라고 생각한다.
