The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Internet Addiction and perceived parenting attitude to undergraduate students: the mediating effects of self-esteem and self-control. A survey was conducted on 308 undergraduate students who live in Seoul and Kyunggi area. As a result, from this research: First, more the parenting attitude of father became hostile and controlling, and that of mother became hostile and irrational, higher the measure of internet addition was. Second, the mediating effect of self-esteem, related to parenting attitude and internet addiction, showed that as mother’s parenting attitude becomes positive, self-esteem becomes high and internet addiction trend becomes low. Third, the mediating effect of self-control, related to parenting attitude and internet addiction, showed that as mother’s parenting attitude becomes positive, self-control becomes high and internet addiction trend becomes low. As a result of this research, we could observe that positive parenting attitude recognized by undergraduate students can contribute to the prevention or reduction of internet addiction.
