미술이 그 시대의 문화를 기록하고 반영하며 나아가 문화의 창조와 발전에 공헌한다고 볼 때, 미술관은 문화에 대한 이해와 문화를 향유할 수 있는 교육적 기회를 제공해준다 따라서 이러한 특정들을 바탕으로, 지역사회 교육 기관으로서의 미술관의 가치를 인식하고 학습의 새 로운 접근을 시작해야 할 시대가 도래 하였고 이에 대한 심도 있는 연구가 절실히 필요한 때 이다. 본 연구는 지역사회에서 이루어지는 미술관교육의 중요성을 인식시키기 위해 영은 미술관 교 육 프로그램 사례를 중심으로 지역사회 내 지자체 기관, 학교 동과 어떠한 유기관계를 통해 지 역사회의 문화예술교육 활성화가 이루어지고 있고, 나아가 지역사회 연계 미술관 교육 프로그 램의 발전 방향을 모색 하는 데 그 의의를 둔다. 미술관 교육은 어린이, 청소년들에게 작가와 미술 작품을 직접 접할 수 있는 기회를 부여하 여, 미적 감수성, 시 지각 능력, 상상력, 창의성, 비판적 사고력을 신장시키고, 미술 문화의 중 요성을 이해하며 향유, 계숭, 발전시킬 수 있는 능력을 지닌 전인적 인간 형성을 목적으로 하는 중요한 교육 활동이다. 또한 일반 어린이, 청소년 뿐만 아니라 장애우와 같은 소외계층 들을 대 상으로 다양한 프로그램 운영이 가능하다. 이와 더불어 성인들을 대상으로 한 평생교육의 일환 으로 운영할 수 있는 프로그램 또한 무궁무진 하다. 이렇듯 미술관 교육만의 특수성과 무한한 가능성을 토대로 지역사회 내에서 미술관 교육의 역할은 점점 커질 수 밖에 없고 현재 많은 미 술관에서 점점 확산되어 가고 있는 실정이다 . 이러한 문제의식에서 본 연구는 지역사회에서 미술관 교육의 역할을 주제로 ‘영은미술관 교 육프로그램 사례 ‘를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 지역사회에서 미술관 교육의 역할이라 함은, 지역사 회 내 주인공인 지역민들이 미술관에 대한 괴리감 없이 이웃과 같이 편안함을 느끼며 문화와 예술과 항상 소통할 수 있는 가교적 역할을 해 주는 것이라 할 수 있다. 앞으로 지역사회에서 미술관 교육프로그램의 활성화를 위한 방안을 모색하고 제시하고자 한다 본 사례가 앞으로 우리나라 지역사회에서 미술관 교육을 확산시키고 발전시키는 데 조금이나 마 일조를 해 주리라 사료되는 바이다.
