본 연구에서는 영아기부터 초기 아동기까지의 공동주의 발달양상과 아동 초기 언어능력간 관 련성을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 97명의 영아들을 대상으로 9개월부터 28개월까지 여러 시점에서 영아-어머니 자유놀이 상황을 통해 공동주의를, 만 3세에 K-CDI 아동발달검사 중 언 어관련 하위 소검사로 언어능력을 측정하였다. 잠재성장모형을 통해 분석한 결과, 영아기에서 아동 초기에 이르기까지 공동주의는 월령 증가에 따라 일정 시간 동안 점차적으로 증가하다가 그 후에는 더욱 급격하게 증가하는 경향을 나타내었고, 공동주의의 초기값과 변화율에서 모두 영아간 차이가 있었다. 그리고 공동주의의 초기값과 변화율에서의 개인차는 모두 이후 아동 초 기 언어능력과 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 아동 초기 시점까지의 공동주의의 변 화양상을 살펴봄으로써 공동주의의 발달을 살펴보는데 있어서 좀 더 다양한 시점에서 공동주 의를 관찰할 필요가 있음을 제시하였다. 또한, 본 연구의 의의는 공동주의의 초기값뿐만 아니 라 변화율에서 나타나는 영아간 차이가 이후 아동 초기 언어능력에 영향을 미친다는 것을 밝 힘으로써 언어발달에 있어 공동주의의 변화율의 중요성을 실증적으로 검증했다는 것에 있다.
The current study investigated the changes of joint attention in infants and examined the relationship between the rate of change of joint attention and language ability of early childhood. 97 infants were used as subjects in this study. The amount of joint attention was measured from 9 months to 28 months in infant-mother free play situations. In the Korean Child Development Inventory, language comprehension, expressive language, and letter scales were used to measure language ability at 3 years old. Latent growth modeling was used to analyze change estimation of joint attention during infancy, and multivariate latent growth model was applied to verify the relevance of changes of infancy joint attention and early language skills. As a result, joint attention had increased nonlinearly over time. There were individual differences in initial joint attention and the rate of changes and these differences impacted upon language ability. The results of the current study suggested that researchers need to expand their time frames when they examine the aspect of transition of joint attention. Moreover, when researchers examine the relationshipbetween joint attention and language ability in follow-up research, they need to consider the rate of change in joint attention.
