The purpose of this study is to newly suggest the way of restructuring“components of independent
living skills of intellectual disabilities”that reflect characteristics and desires of intellectual disabilities.
Brainstorming was done based on 3 groups of 31 intellectual disabilities, 13 parents of intellectual disabilities,
and 14 staffs related to intellectual disabilities. 55 skills were listed through contraction and editing. After
that, 5 parents, 5 staff members, and 16 intellectual disabilities were asked to rate the present degree of
acquisition and the future degree of need. Concept System Core 4.0 was used for the evaluation of the
collected data.
As a result, 55 skill lists were divided to totally nine categories: health, cleanliness, house working, money,
leisure, date & marriage, job, rights & advocacy, and social relationship. Skills highly needed in training
of intellectual disabilities for independent living could be found out through the analysis of the difference
between two rating variables, the present degree of acquisition and the future degree of acquisition.
