This article is to explain the intention and the vision of building the Confederate State of America as well as the interpretation of its symbolic artifact, the Constitution. Specially, I focus the Preamble of the Confederation Constitution of 1861 and its unique States' Rights, which is a contrast to the U. S. Constitution of 1789. Specially, the Constitution of 1861 affirmed States Rights or StateS Sovereignty theory in this new founding Confederacy. For example, the Preamble of 1789 had a controversial sentence, "a more perfect Union" which. was interpreted as all the States converged into a nation, and so the United States of America became an unified one nation. In retrospect, Controversies of American history before the Civil War could be originated from in this clause. Many historians and politicians have been interested and interpreted in the clause. And they said that the clause affirmed the supremacy of the Union's Sovereignty. But during the 1860s the Southern section said the Constitution of 1789 never granted the supremacy of Union's Sovereignty. So, in order to prevent this controversies about this clause, the Southern States inserted affirmatory States' Rights cause in their new Constitution. Then, instead of "a more perfect Union", they specially inserted the clause of "each State acting in its sovereign and independent character" into their new Constitution of 1861. They thought that States' Sovereignty theory was the moot important political economy cause to protect poop Ie s right. Also, the Constitution of 1861 deleted the clause of "promote the general welfare" of the U. S. Constitution. Because this clause was used intentionally to enforce central government, each State s Rights was encroached and could not run effectively its sovereignty. In conclusion, the Preamble of the Constitution of 1861 could be interpreted as a symbolic document about the supremacy of the States' Rights.
