The purpose of this research is to present measures for contributing to the
successful aging of senior citizens from the integrated perspective. To realize the
purpose of this research, the researcher conducted standard survey by targeting
700 senior citizens who are 65 years old or older and who frequent senior
welfare centers and regional welfare centers in Wonju-shi and Yeoungweol-gun in
Gangwon-do and Jaecheon-shi and Danyang-gun in Chungchungbuk-do. The key
results of this research are as follows. First, social support moderating effect was
analyzed, which demonstrated that the interaction between the sum of the
spiritual and the whole social support helped to increase the explanation power
concerning sense of ego-integrity, but it did not hold statistical significance.
Second, the attitude towards life, which is one of factors of ego-integrity, has
been proved to have a interaction effect with vertical dimension of spirituality,
emotional support and informational support. Third, life satisfaction demonstrated
vertical dimension of spirituality and emotional support, informational support, and
appraisal support moderating effect. Furthermore, it was verified that there is
interaction effect among horizontal dimension of spirituality, emotional support,
informational support, appraisal support and instrumental support. Services
provided to support senior citizens' successful aging need to factor in, not only
physical, psychological and social domains, but spiritual domain as well. That is, it
needs to factor in comprehensive set of elements. Moreover, services for
supporting ego-integrity which is a goal for development during senescence need
to offer personalized services that factor in the diverse situations that senior
citizens face and their diverse desires as well. Accordingly, social workers at the
senior welfare center need to be more sensitive to spirituality so that they can
get familiarized with integration assessment, a biopsychosociospiritual domain,
when assessing senior citizens' desires, and need to try to provide personalized
services via integrated case management.
