This study aims to survey and analyze its result of the current status of interdisciplinary
education in Korean Universities focusing on the areas of humanities and social sciences. Firstly, the
prior researches related in interdisciplinary education in higher education are reviewed. It is indicated
that the theoretically refined outcomes of the meaning and the need of interdisciplinary education in
the fields of humanities and social sciences are still insufficient, and the empirical researches are
very limited in mere introduction of institutional and curricula models of interdisciplinary education.
Thus this study precedes the focus group interview (FGI) with the specialists in interdisciplinary
education in humanities and social sciences, and applies it to the consultation of the survey on the
experiences of the teachers and students who involved in that educational area. With this research,
it is noticed that the interdisciplinary education in the areas of humanities and social sciences are
variously programmed. However, it is indicated as a conclusion of this survey that there are several
things that should be improved for the educational quality in this area, including teachers'
professionality, contents development, and the betterment of educational environment for the students
who are engaged in the interdisciplinary study.
