청소년들의 나라사랑의식은 세계화와 더불어 더욱 활발해진 환경적 변화 속에서 이 를 새롭게 반영해야 할 펼요가 생겼다. 청소년들의 나라사랑과 관련한 의식을 확인하 여 적정한 대응방안을 모색하는 것은 장래 국가와 사회의 안정적 발전을 위해 매우 중요한 일이라고 할 수 있기 때문이다. 이와 관련하여 본 연구에서는 한국을 포함하 여 미국·일본 중국 등 주요국가 청소년들의 나라사랑의식을 조사하고， 우리나라 청소 년들은 이들 국가 청소년 대비 어떤 특징적 모습을 갖는지를 분석코자 하였다. 분석 에는 보훈교육연구원이 2012년 한국갤럽조사연구소에 의뢰하여 실시된 4개국 8개 도 시(한국은 서울과 부산， 미국은 뉴욕과 LA， 일본은 동경과 교토， 중국은 북경과 상해) 의 중， 고， 대학생 대상 설문자료(2,477부)가 활용되었다. 나라사랑의식을 국가의식， 역 사의식， 안보의식으로 구분하여 분석된 결과에서 중국 청소년들이 다른 국가 청소년 들에 비해 상당히 높은 수준의 나라사랑의식을 보이고 있었다. 그 다음으로 한국 청 소년들이 미국에 비해 조금 높은 수준을 보이고 있었다. 여타 국가 대비 한국의 나라 사랑의식이 전반적으로 크게 낮지는 않았지만， 항목별 수준에 있어서는 상당부분 개 선의 여지도 발견되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 결과를 토대로 향후 한국 청소년들의 나라사랑의식 제고방안에 대해 논의하였다.
Patriotism is cultural attachment to one's homeland or devotion to one's country. It is a set of concepts closely related to those of nationalism. Patriotism is generally used to describe two phenomena: the attitude that the members of a nation have when they care about their national identity, ,md the actions that the members of a nation take when seeking to achieve self-deternlination. The patriots and veterans policies arc designed to promote the spirit of patriotism and contribute to national development. The extent to which an youth is expected to share social responsibilities is one large detemining factor in nonnative youth behavior. This study analyzed the consciousness of patriotism of korean, american, Japanese and chinese youths. This study shows that youths in Korea are weaker than the concepts of state and history of youths in China. In Korea, in spite of high educational level and academic achievement, the competence to have the concepts of state and history is comparatively low because the school education is not directly connected with concepts of state and history. To enhance the youths' patriotism, the korean government ought to prepare comprehensive and integrative plan to cultivate next generation.
