This study is to see how effective each of the types(vicarious, appreciative,
creative, physical and other types) of art media are on adolescents’
depression, anxiety and interpersonal relationship. For the study, the
questionnaires were distributed to 1,000 middle and high school students
located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Frequency Analysis, Reliability Analysis,
Independent Sample T-Test, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Analysis
and Stepwise Regression Analysis are conducted using SPSS 18.0 program.
The results from the survey are as follows. First, both gender utilize the
appreciative type of art media most, and the physical type least. All types,
except vicarious one, are utilized by female students more than male
students. High school students utilize the appreciative type more, and middle
school students utilize the creative and physical types more. Second, what is
effective for all the variables(depression, anxiety and interpersonal relationship)
is only the creative type. And it is more influential to the interpersonal
relationship than the other two variables. The result of this study indicates
that the utilization of the creative art media, expressing feelings actively,
diminishes adolescents’ depression and anxiety, and, especially, is more
effective on the ability of the interpersonal relationship than the utilization of
the passive art media.
