This paper aims at critically reviewing purposes of education and teaching approaches focused on Confucius and Socrates teaching philosophies. What I have said in this paper about the importance of dialog-based teaching process and of the input method, and the equal relationship between the teachers and the students, should be Socratic approach; what I have said about the necessity of observing and understanding the students, the application of teaching to the students in accordance with their aptitude, and the consistency between theory and practice in education, should be Confucian approach. The primary importance is attached to the development of the students' personalities and potentials and the great human qualities. Students are not taught how to win in the society, but taught how to seek the truth by themselves. Students should not only learn their subject matter, but also learn how to learn, how to think, how to develop themselves, and how to understand other people and show concern for other people.
