이 글에서 필자는 유물의 수집과 아직 우리 박물관에서는 활발하게 이뤄지고 있지 않은 유물의 활용방안에 대해 논하고자 한다. 유물수집에 관하여는 경기도박물관을 사례로 수집의 종류, 범위, 방법 등을 조사하였으며, 유물의 활용방안에서는 유물이 활용될 수 있는 범위를 기존의 전시 외에, 교육프로그램과 현장서비스로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 그동안 박물관에서 유물을 수집하는 목적은 전시나 소장을 위해서였다. 역사적으로 희귀하고 귀 중한 물건을 수집하여 잘 보관하고 일반대중을 위해 전시하는 것은 박물관의 기본적인 역할이고, 이젠 시야를 넓혀 박물관 내에서 진행하는 체험프로그램이나 찾아가는 프로그램, 외부로의 대여를 통한 유물의 ‘활용’을 모색해 보아야 할 때이다. 그렇다고 수백 년 된 자료나 국보 및 보물급을 프로그램에 직접 활용하자는 것은 아니다. 본 글에서 논하고자 하는 유물의 활용 범위는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실물의 활용에서는 근ㆍ현대 역사, 민속자료 중 요즘도 일부에서 사용하고 있으며 박물관에서 여러 점 소장하고 있는 유물과, 실물을 복제하여 만든 복제품을 박물관 교육 자료로 활용할 것을 제안한다. 둘째, 유물을 축소하거 나 복제품을 제작하고 교구(Kits)의 형태로 만들어 필요로 하는 교육기관에 대여하는 것이다. 마지 막으로 교구를 여러 개 만들어 도서를 대출 하듯 절차를 밟아 박물관내에서 대여해 주는 방법이다.
In this article, I discuss about the collection methods and use of artifacts in a museum. I examined the kinds, scope, methods of the museum collection. Next, I explore how to use of museum artifacts in the education programs, on-site service, rental etc. Meanwhile, we have collected the museum objects for the exhibit and storage. The role of the museum is to collect the rare and valuable artifacts historically and exhibit it for the general public. We should try to find new way that take advantage of the museum artifacts. Here, I explain about the method of utilized the objects as museum educational programs and loan-services. In case if you have several same artifacts in the museum, some of which will you have to be used as educational materials. In the museum program, a replica can use as a education materials also. The loan service means lending the replicas to required institutions. Finally, I suggest that a museum can lend the replica-kits to their visitors(school or similar institute) as you borrow books from the library.
