이 연구의 첫 번째 목적은 우리나라 대학생과 성인 영재의 두 집단간에 동기 요인 구조가 서로 다르게 나타나는지 그리고 그 두 집단의 동기 요인 구조에서 내재 동기와 외재 동기 척도간의 관계가 상호 독립적인지를 조사하는 것이었다. 두 번째 목적은 두 집단간에 동기와 창의성간의 관계 유형이 다르게 나타나는지를 조사하는 것이었다. 555명의 일반대학생과 160명의 성인 영재(IQ 140 이상의 한국멘사 회원)들의 작업선호검사(동기성향검사)로부터 구해진 자료들을 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 두 집단의 동기 요인 구조는 크게 다르지 않았다. 둘째, 두 집단의 동기 요인 구조에서 모두 내재 동기와 외재 동기간의 관계는 상호 독립적인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 동기와 창의성간의 상관 유형도 두 집단에 걸쳐 거의 비슷하게 나타났는데, 두 집단에서 모두 내재 동기가 외재 동기보다 창의적 능력과 창의적 인성과 더 높게 관련되었다. 이 연구에서 성인 영재 집단은 일반대학생 집단보다 내재 동기가 더 높은 반면에, 일반대학생 집단은 성인 영재 집단보다 외재 동기가 더 높았다.
The purpose of this study was to examine if motivational structures of college students would be different from gifted adults\' and also if intrinsic motivation would be independent of extrinsic motivation in their motivational structures. A second goal was to compare correlational patterns of motivation and creativity between college students and gifted adults. 555 college students and 160 gifted adults(whose IQ scores were above 140) completed Amabile\'s the Work Preference Inventory and solved the Divergent Thinking Test. The following resulted from analysis of the data: (1) the results of a confirmatory factor analysis showed that motivational structures of college students were not different from gifted adults\'. (2) the correlational data indicated that intrinsic motivation was relatively independent of extrinsic motivation for both groups. It means that intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation are better conceptualized as two separate dimensions rather than as one bipolar. (3) correlational patterns of motivation and creativity for two groups were nearly similar, showing that intrinsic motivation was more significantly correlated with both creative performance and creative personality scores than extrinsic motivation. (4) the scores of intrinsic motivation for gifted adults were higher than those for college students whereas the scores of extrinsic motivation for college students were higher than those for gifted adults.
