With the investigation of the relationship between the individual characteristics of adolescents who prefer popular music and sensation-seeking motivation, this study seeks to examine the relationship between the level of their infatuation in musical variable factors and four variable factors of sensation-seeking motivation. The subjects of study were male and female adolescents attending middle schools and high schools located in Seoul. Conducting a questionnaire study in a group of 600 students selected by random sampling, 577 sets have been collected. Out of the collected 577 sets, 70 were excluded: six in which many questions remained unanswered, 64 in which the subjects did not indicate a preference for popular music. Accordingly, data of 507 students were analyzed statistically. Processing the answers of subject adolescents statistically, the researcher has reached the following conclusions. The researcher found that there were remarkable differences between thrill/adventure-seeking and experience-seeking between sexes. Male students showed remarkable differences in thrill/adventure-seeking, while female students did in experience-seeking. In terms of the age variable, high school students showed remarkable difference in thrill/adventure seeking and experience-seeking and disinhibition as well as releasing prohibition as compared to middle school student. Investigating sensation-seeking motivation of adolescents preferring popular music and the relationship between groups in accordance with the level of their infatuation in musical variable factor, the groups preferring music with rapid rhythm did not show any difference among groups in terms of level of infatuation. Among groups preferring unfamiliar melody, loud music, strong beat, songs with criticizing words against the society differences in terms of level of infatuation were observed in variable factors such as experience-seeking, disinhibition, and boredom susceptibility. The group with high preference shows remarkable differences compared to groups with middle and low preference. The researcher found that sensation-seeking motivation of adolescents preferring popular music is related to their sex and age, and relation and property are indicated in compliance with their sensation-seeking motivation and the level of infatuation in musical variable factors. Especially, in the area of experience-seeking and disinhibition, very high relationship was observed in other variable factors except for music with rapid rhythm
