퇴계(退溪)는 도산(陶山)에 완전히 거처하기 이전에는 와유(臥 遊)를 통하여 은일을 꿈꾸고 지수인산(智水仁山)의 경지를 추구 하였다. 퇴계는 산수를 놀이 공간으로 보지 않았다. 재덕자의 우 불우(遇不遇)를 가탁하는 비유물로 이용하지도 않았다. 퇴계에게 산수(山水)는 궁극의 진리체를 상징하였다. 일상적 관심 밖에 놓 여있는 참 경치의 발견은 곧 도체(道體)의 자득을 의미하였다. 퇴계는 산수유람의 전 과정을 진리체의 궁구 과정으로 상징하고 구도 정신을 가탁하였다. 의론을 노출하지도 않았고, 옅은 비유 를 사용하지 않았다....
