우리 속담에 ‘자라보고 놀란 가슴 솥뚜껑 보고도 놀란다’는 말이 있다. 자라 를 보고 놀랐던 경험 때문에 자라와 비슷하게 생긴 솥뚜껑을 보고도 놀 란다는 말이다. 이처럼 심리적으로 크게 놀라거나 고통스러웠던 경험은 몸과 마음에 남아 이후에 사물을 인식하는데 영향을 미치게 된다. 솥뚜껑 이라는 사물은 전혀 위험하지 않은데도 불구하고 두려움과 공포의 대상 으로 착각하게 만드는 것이다. -
