｢정치하지 마라!｣라는 고 노무현 대통령의 글에서 영감을 받아서 본 연구 는 정치와 거짓말의 관계를 규명하고자 한다. 먼저 거짓말의 개념을 진술적 차원과 수행적 차원에서 분석적으로 정리하고, 정치는 시대적 특징을 중심으로 현대 정치 의 상황을 설정한다. 시청각 대중 매체라는 하드웨어와 자유주의라는 소프트웨어가 주도하는 환경에서 펼쳐지는 현대 정치가 거짓말과 어떤 관계를 형성하는지 규명하 는 가운데 민주화와 포괄정당의 대두, 언론의 기업적 경쟁 등 정치인의 거짓말에 기여하는 요인을 두루 분석한다. 그래서 어쩔 수 없이 ‘연기’와 ‘포장’을 해야 하는 현실에 직면하여, 정직하고자 하는 정치인조차도 거짓말을 피하기 어려운 현대 정 치의 구조적 현황을 드러낸다. 그리고 이런 현실에 대해 우리가 어떤 태도를 취해 야 할 것인지 일반 시민과 정치인이란 두 입장에서 예비적으로 검토한다.
Inspired by the late president Roh Moo-hyun’s article, “Don’t Be a Politician!” this study attempts to bring light to the relation of politics with lies. It first clarifies the concept of lie analytically, and sets up the notion of politics in line with some notable current characteristics. Then the relationship between politics and lies is delineated in such environments that audio-visual media(harware) and liberalism(software) constitute, along with democratization, catch-all-party, competition in the press. The outcome is the structural situation where politicians can hardly refuse to lie, even if they want to be honest. They got to perform and reframe in politics. The last chapter discusses how to deal with this situation as politicians and citizens.
