The purpose of this study is to find how the intervention of story map in mild aphasic patients
influences their improvements in their story understanding and story retelling. Study subjects were three
mild aphasic patients with more than 76 points of AQ(Aphasia Quotient) who experienced
acquired-brain-damage. To find the intervention effect of story map, this researcher set story understanding
and story retelling as independent variables, and story map as a dependent variable. The study results are
presented as follows: First, the intervention of story map was effective at improving mild aphasic patients'
ability of story understanding. It means that in order to understand a story, it is required to have a lot
of cognitive abilities, including recall of specific contents, understanding of causal relation, classification of
real information, and inference of implications. Writing a story map is effective at improving the abilities
and improving the understanding of a story. Secondly, the intervention of story map was effective at
improving mild aphasic patients' ability of story retelling. The story recall based story retelling requires
active composition of story information. As shown in the results of previous studies, writing a story map
contributes to not only developing the sub categories of language ability, but to understanding a grammar
structure of a story and improving the ability of story composition.
