The purpose of this study is to analyze the processes of change undergone by self-critic clients as a result of
‘two-chair dialogues’ sessions in Gestalt therapy. The study looked into stages of change shown in the sessions
with clients who found them effective. For this purpose, eight records of ‘two-chair dialogue’ sessions and eight
interviews with the clients who completed the sessions were analyzed. The focus was on determining which stage
gave rise to the positive change in clients. Through a comprehensive process analysis, four stages of change and
ten sub-units of change were found. The four stages were the split stage, the contact stage, the attuning stage,
and the integrating stage. Experiences of the clients going through each stage and sub-unit were described and
discussed in detail, along with positive changes therein.
