본 연구에서는 문제중심학습법을 적용한 지속가능한 디자인 수업이 초등학생의 공동체의식에 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 하 였다. 최근 국제사회는 사회발전·경제성장·환경보호를 통합적으로 고려하는 지속가능한 발전에 주목하고 있으며 이를 실천하 기 위해 공동체에 대한 존중을 핵심가치로 규정한 지속가능발전교육을 강조하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 미술교육을 통해 지속가능발전교육을 실천할 수 있는 하나의 방안으로, 문제중심학습법을 적용한 지속가능한 디자인 수업을 계획하고 현장에 적용하여 이러한 수업이 학습자의 공동체의식에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 설계한 수업은 ‘모두의 놀이터 디자인’이라는 주제로, 지속가능한 디자인으로서의 놀이터를 디자인하고 모형으로 제작하는 활동으로 구성되어있다. 개발된 수업은 총 8차시로, 초등학교 5학년의 학습자에게 적용되었다. 수업 전후로 공동체의식 검사지를 활용하여 설문을 실시한 결과, 수업에 참여한 학습자의 공동체의식과 공동체의식의 각 하위영역에서 유의미한 향상이 있었다. 본 연구는 앞으로 보다 활발하게 논의될 지속가능발전교육이라는 큰 흐름에 있어 미술을 통한 실천적 사례를 제시하였다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
This study verified the effects of sustainable design classes applying PBL on elementary school students' sense of community. International society is paying attention to sustainable development considering social development, economic growth, and environmental protection. In order for this aim, global community is emphasizing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) defining respect toward community as its key value. Therefore, as the measures to implement ESD through art education, this study examined the effects of sustainable design classes applying PBL by applying it to the sites of education. Under the theme ‘Playground design for all’, classes are comprised of activities in which playgrounds are created into models. Eight classes have been applied to elementary school fifth graders. As a result of conducting surveys by using sense of community survey sheets before and after classes, learners' sense of community had significant improvements. This study is meaningful since it suggested practical cases through art in ESD which is to be discussed actively in the future.
