The purpose of this study was to develop a robot-based early adaptation support program for
toddlers in child care program. It also aimed at enhancing the quality of the early adaptation
support program through the convergence of technology and edu-care. Throughout this endeavor, it
was expected that the possibility of implementing robot-based child care program could be examined.
Prior to the actual development of the program, a review of literature and surveying 250 child care
teachers for identifying elements of the program and their needs were carried out. The program
elements and teachers’ needs for the program were identified according to the objectives, contents,
and teaching and learning method. The developed program was implemented in 42 toddlers enrolled
in two child care centers in B metropolitan city. In findings, the program showed statistically
significant effects on toddler’s level of organizational adaptation and playfulness in positive manner.
Based on the findings, it was concluded that the unique aspects of the robot used in the program
such as mobility, motional function, interactivity were vital to make differences in toddlers’ early
adaptation. Therefore, child care teachers’ successful early adaptation support program would be
implemented, if teachers could make their role under supportive environments in which the well
designed early adaptation program and adequate teacher education were provided.
