The purpose of this research was to analyze the process of the recreation specialization
among outdoor camping participants, also to figure out efficient countermeasure and
segmented characteristics to the fast growing camping industry. The 10 selected
participants were gathered without limitation of education, occupation, income, and
religion, who were participating in camping activity more than a 10 times per year.
Grounded theory method was used to analyze the process of recreation specialization of
outdoor camping participants. First, during this process, 106 concepts and 18
sub-categories was developed, and finalized with 6 upper categories. Second, the study
defined the relationships among following categories: causal conditions, situational context,
central phenomenon, intervening conditions, interaction strategies, and consequence.
Third, through the storytelling of overall outline within the study, the author focused on
the relationship between central phenomenon of ‘life synergy effect’ and recreation
specialization. Under this outline of the study, the core category ‘master of camping,’
was deducted.
