The aim of this study is to develop an instructional counsulting model for
pre-service elementary school teachers, to establish a framework for analysing
mathematics instruction based on the standards on mathematics teaching
evaluation, and to show a case of mathematics instructional consulting for
pre-service elementary school teachers.
The instructional consulting model for pre-service elementary school teachers
developed in the study consists of five stages as follows: preparation stage, data
collection stage, diagnosis stage, reflective implementation stage, and evaluation
stage. The standards on mathematics teaching evaluation are composed of
background knowledge, subject matter, learning objectives, teaching methods,
and assessment. The framework for analysing mathematics instruction consists
of questions related to the standards.
According to the analysis of mathematics instruction of a pre-service elementary
school teacher, background knowledge, connecting students\' activities and
mathematical principles, and time allotment. Especially, it needs to teach pre-service
elementary school teachers an eye for understanding the meanings of students\'
activities contained in mathematics textbook based on background knowledge.
