This study is to examine the effect of the Transactional Analysis group counseling program on the
teachers’ communication level. Seven teachers from Elementary School A in Gyeonggi province were
assigned to the control group and another seven teachers from the same school were assigned to the
experiment group. First, to examine the impact of the group counseling program, a pre-test on the
communication level was implemented in both the control and experiment groups. Then, the experiment
group received a total of four program sessions, which lasted 50 minutes per session, once a week for four
weeks, from November 9, 2011 to November 28, 2011. The control group did not receive any treatment
and completed pre-and-post tests. To measure the teacher-perceived communication level between the
teacher and the students, a tool from Noh(2004) was used. This tool is originally from Millard and
Bienvenu’s(1974) and was tranlated by Shin(1988). To examine the pre-post difference between the
experiment and the control group, averages and standard deviations were computed and MANCOVA was
used. The results of the study is as follows: The significant difference between the control group and the
experiment group indicates that the group counseling program has significant effect on elementary school
teachers’ communication level. Therefore, the Transactional Analysis group counseling program has an
impact of positive change on the elementary school teachers’ communication level.
