Technology used in special education field is divided into general technology used to carry out the instructional and learning, and assistive technology used to help the students with disabilities in the instructional and learning, the daily living, and leisure and vocational activities. Assistive technology supports functional needs arose because of cognitive and physical characteristics of the students with disabilities. Assistive technology is also recognized as a basic and essential service that can expand accessibility, convenience, and efficiency of the students with disabilities as they participate the activities required by school, home, and local communities. Base on these settings, this article will ; first, how special schools prompt the use of assistive technology, and how they plan, select and provide assistive technology will be discussed. Then few suggestion for providing assistive technology as actual and practical services in special education organizations base on current assistive technology settings are proposed.
