본 연구에서는 한국 중국유학생의 고유한 문화정서인, 우리성과 정이 학교적응과 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미칠 때, 체면의 간접효과를 검증해보고자 한다. 연구대상은 한국에서 유학하고 있는 중국유학생 385명(남학생 133명, 여학생 205명, 무응답 47명)이다. 본 연구는 2019년 겨울부터 2020년 봄까지 실시되었고, 중국유학생들은 유목적 편의표집에 의해서 표집되었다. 연구모형 검증을 위해 AMOS 22.0을 활용하여 구조방정식 최대우도 추정법을 사용하였다. 연구결과, 우리성은 학교적응에 유의한 부적 영향을 미쳤지만, 삶의 만족도에는 유의한 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 하지만 우리성이 학교적응과 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 어느 경로에서도 체면의 간접효과는 나타나지 않았다. 반면에, 정은 학교적응과 삶의 만족도에 유의한 직접 영향을 미치지 않았다. 하지만 정의 하위요인인 인간적 연약성과 타인배려성이 학교적응에 영향을 미칠 때, 체면의 완전매개효과를 보였다. 본 연구는 중국유학생간의 우리성이라는 강한 연대감이 한국 유학생활의 삶의 질을 높이는 중요한 요소이고, 중국을 대표하는 한 사람으로서 중국유학생에게 체면은 한국의 유학생활적응에 핵심적인 문화정서임을 시사한다. 따라서 본 연구는 한국 유학생에 대한 연구는 각 나라의 고유한 토착문화에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 하며, 그들 고유의 문화정서를 간과해서는 안된다는 것을 강조한다.
The aim of this study is to examine the mediating effects of chemyon (social face, 體面) when we-ness and cheong (affection, 情) influence Chinese students’ adaptation to university life and life satisfaction. The study was conducted with 385 Chinese students in South Korea from November 2019 to February 2020 using purposive sampling methods. Structural equation modeling (SEM) using AMOS 22.0 showed the following results. We-ness negatively affected university adaptation, yet positively affected life satisfaction. There were no indirect effects of chemyon on university adaptation and life satisfaction. Cheong did not have a significant effect on university adaptation and life satisfaction. Human tenderness and caring about others’ cheong were shown to be a completely mediated effect on university life adaptation. In this research, we-ness among Chinese students is an important concept that leads to enhanced life quality, and chemyon implies national pride in terms of representing China when adapting to life in South Korean universities. Thus, this research suggests that counselors should understand and consider the indigenous emotions pertaining to each country when counseling international students.
