본 연구는 중학생 대상으로 미디어리터러시 교육프로그램을 개발⋅적용하여 중학생의 미디어 역량에 유의한 변화가 있는지 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 급변하는 미디어 환경에서 미디어리터러시에 대한 이해와 역량은 새로운 시민성과 기본적인 소양으로 그 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 특히 디지털 원주민으로 불리는 중학생들은 거짓 정보와 혐오 콘텐츠에 많이 노출되고 있어, 이를 비판적으로 이해하고 효과적으로 활용할 수 있도록 돕는 미디어리터러시 교육이 필수적이다. 이론적 고찰 및 문헌연구를 분석하고 요구도 조사를 실시하여 C시에 위치한 중학교 1학년 20명을 대상으로 2023년 4월부터 6월까지 주 1회 총 7회에 걸쳐 적용하였다. 6가지 세부역량을 적용하여 프로그램을 개발한 후 프로그램 적용 전⋅후의 변화를 검증하기 위해 동일한 대상 또는 집단에 대한 반복측정 분산분석을 사용하였고 수업 활동지와 관찰일지를 통하여 질적분석 하였다. 그 결과, 모든 세부역량(미디어 이해, 자기 조절, 비판적 이해, 사회적 의사소통, 자아 표현, 윤리 및 규범)에 유의한 변화가 나타났고 중학생들의 인식과 태도에도 긍정적인 반응을 볼 수 있었다. 따라서 미디어리터러시 교육프로그램이 중학생의 미디어리터러시 역량을 높이는 데 도움을 줄 수 있으며 미디어 환경의 위험에 잘 대처하고 주도적인 이용자가 되기 위해서는 미디어의 발전 속도와 학습자의 수준을 고려한 균형 있는 교육프로그램이 지속적으로 개발되어야 한다.
The purpose of this study is to develop and implement a media literacy education program for middle school students that examines significant changes in media competence. The importance of understanding and competency in media literacy has been emphasized in the rapidly changing media environment. In particular, middle school students are exposed to a lot of hateful content. Thus, it is essential to provide middle school students with media literacy education that they can understand and utilize critically. After conducting a needs assessment through a theoretical review and literature review, the program was applied to 20 first-year middle school students in C city from April to June 2023, once a week for a total of seven sessions. After developing the program by applying six competencies, repeated measures analysis of variance for the same group was used to verify the changes before and after the program, and qualitative analysis was conducted through class activity sheets and observation journals. The results showed significant changes in all competencies and positive responses in students' perceptions and attitudes. Therefore, this study can help middle school students improve their media literacy competencies, and a balanced education program that considers media and learners should continue to be developed.
