The study is a comparative analysis in the use of sandtray therapy symbols by the age
of the client and general children. The subjects of the study were 100 childrenl, 50 of
socially and emotionally handicapped of client and 50 general children the 'SDQ(1997)'
was employed. Based on the preliminary analysis data, the classification system of Kim
Yu-sook and 山中康裕 (2005) was modified The classification system of symbols was then
reconstructed and, for the symbols of 1,852 works, frequency analysis and Mann-Whitney
U test were conducted by means of SPSS Descriptive Statistic Program. According to the
results of this study, General children rather than client, children’s were much more
diverse and symbolic than the infants. Especially, the 'ride' type was found to be used
more frequently in all ages of the children in the Client. Therefore, this study is expected
to be a guide to understanding the client's child by recognizing the differences between
the client and general children, based on the differences between the ages of childhood
and general children, based on the age gap in advance.
