The purpose of this study was to investigate the trends of music therapy research in special education through the analysis of theses from 1997 to 2005, and to make some directions for the future development of music therapeutic approach in Special Education. The targets of this study, total 139 theses was divided by year, researchers\' major, subjects, research methods and research contents. The results of this study were listed as follows. First, target theses of degrees were divided as follows; 68 music therapy major\'s theses and 31 special education, and 40 others. Second, target subjects were divided as follows; 42 autism, 35 mental retardations, 12 learning disorders, and 10 ADHD. Third, target research methods were divided as follows; 122 quantitative researches, 15 literature researches, 1 qualitative research and 1 quantitative-qualitative mixed research. Fourth, target number of research contents was as follows; the field of behavior was the highest, 29%.
